A production fibre laser cutting machine costs Rs 20-45 lakh for a 1.5-3 kW machine on a 3m x 1.5m bed, and Rs 45-70 lakh at 6 kW. Listings below Rs 5 lakh are a different machine class entirely: small-bed, tube or engraving units that cannot cut production sheet. Chillers, fume extraction and installation add up to 50% on top of the machine price.

1. Why listings span Rs 3 lakh to Rs 70 lakh

This is the single most confusing thing about the category, and almost no supplier page explains it. Two machines described as a fibre laser cutter can differ by 20x in price because they are not the same class of equipment.

Sub-Rs 5 lakh listings

Small-bed engraving and marking units, tube cutters, or hobby-grade machines. Bed sizes are often 600 x 400 mm and source power 1 kW or less. They cannot cut 3m x 1.5m production sheet and are not a cheaper version of the machine a fabrication shop needs.

Rs 20-45 lakh: the SME workhorse

1.5-3 kW source on a 3m x 1.5m bed, enclosed, with an industrial chiller. This is what most Indian sheet-metal fabricators actually buy and what dealer quotes converge on for a first machine.

Rs 45-70 lakh and above

6 kW and higher, larger beds, exchange tables and automation. Bought for thickness capacity and throughput rather than a first purchase. Above 12 kW is a different conversation involving cutting-head cooling and factory power supply.

2. Cost by power rating

Source power sets both what thickness you can cut and how fast. Bands below are observed from Indian dealer and importer quotes, excluding GST.

3. What the machine price leaves out

Quotes are usually for the machine alone. These items are not optional and are the most common reason a budget overruns.

  • Industrial chiller, sized to the source. Not an accessory — the laser will not run without it.
  • Fume extraction and filtration, which is also a workplace-safety requirement rather than a preference.
  • Air compressor and gas supply. Nitrogen gives clean edges on stainless but has a real running cost; oxygen and shop air are cheaper per hour with different edge quality.
  • Foundation, three-phase power provisioning and installation. Confirm whether commissioning and operator training are in scope or quoted separately.
  • Together these commonly add 30-50% to the machine price. Budget for the installed cost, not the quoted cost.

4. What to confirm before signing

Ask every shortlisted supplier the same questions, in writing, so the quotes are actually comparable.

Source brand and warranty

Ask which laser source is fitted and what the source warranty covers separately from the machine warranty. The source is the most expensive single component and warranty terms vary widely between suppliers quoting similar prices.

Service coverage in your city

Confirm engineer availability, spare parts lead time and response commitment. Downtime cost on a production machine usually exceeds the price difference between suppliers within the first year.

Cutting trial on your material

Send your actual sheet and thickness for a sample cut before ordering. A demonstration on the supplier's material proves less than a trial on yours.

Running cost per hour

Ask for consumption figures at your expected duty: power draw, assist gas consumption and consumable life for nozzles and protective lenses. This decides total cost of ownership more than the purchase price does.
