1. Start with the structural specification
- Use the project drawing and bar-bending schedule to set grade, diameter, quantity, length and approved make requirements.
- Do not substitute diameter or grade based on a supplier suggestion without written engineer approval.
- Confirm whether the price is per kg, per tonne, ex-yard or delivered to site, and whether cutting/bending is included.

3. Verify compliance and test records
BIS licence
Ask the supplier or mill for the BIS licence information relevant to TMT steel bars, then check the licence and product scope through the official BIS care portal.
Mill test certificate
Request the MTC for the actual heat or lot being dispatched. It should identify the product, lot/heat and reported test values. Have your engineer or QA team review it.
Independent testing
For critical projects or when required by contract, send representative samples to an appropriate laboratory under the project's sampling and test plan.
4. Control quantity and delivery
- Agree the weighbridge process, bundle marking and tolerance treatment before dispatch.
- At receipt, check bundle tags, visible corrosion, bends, diameter mix and document match before unloading is closed out.
- Keep MTCs, invoices, weighbridge slips and site receiving records against each delivery lot.

- Do not accept unmarked bars or a generic certificate that cannot be linked to the delivered lot.
